This antique trivet came from the Civil War-era collection of a museum in Missouri. Imagine the stories it may have heard over the kitchen or dining table on which it sat. Crafted of walnut circa 1850, it bears the patina of a long and well-used life. The wood grain is prominent, the top is slightly convex, the feet uneven in areas (although it stands perfectly flat with no wobble), and the bottom features a noticeable knot hole where a mischievous child may have pried it out when his mother's back was turned. The trivet can still be used, but please note that items set on it will not lay flat due to the surface convexity. It would also make a wonderful display piece in a home kitchen or dining room or as part of a restaurant's decor.
