Home Tableware & Barware | Vintage 1920s Italy Art Ceramic Pottery Plates and Cup Set W/ Fish Mark - 16 Pieces KX75517

Rare set of 12 redware plates and 4 cups by I.C.S. (industria Ceramica Salernita), which operated between 1927 and 1940.Handthrown and handpainted. In excellent condition.

Without doubt, I.C.S. is the most important, the most collectible, and the most expensive of all the twentieth century ceramic art studios of Campania.

In 1927 Berlin-born, Moses Malamerson, better known as Max, established a ceramics studio in Vietri Sul Mar. The studio was a magnet for the Teutonic emigres settling along the Amalfi coast beginning in the first half of the 20th century. I.C.S. became the foundation for an entirely new form of ceramics art that melded the traditional themes of nature captured by native Campanian artists for centuries with the experimental art forms sweeping Europe at the time.

Not only did the renowned Italian potter, Guido Gambone work at I.C.S., it is the only mark that can claim the honor of having employed all the famous artists of the German (Tedesco) Period. The list includes Studemann, Kowalski, Hannasch, Dolker, Cassetta, Gambone, Procida, Giovannino and others.

This is a rare find!
