Here is a vintage Mikasa “Potters Art” dinner plate set. These gorgeous mid-century pottery plates were designed by Ben Seibel. Each plate is 10 3/4 inches in diameter, heavy, and subtly one of a kind. Chocolate brown, gray, and speckled white. Made in Japan. This listing is for four plates.
Ben Seibel was born in 1918 and grew up in Manhattan, where his mother started a shop in Greenwich Village selling her own jewelry and fashion designs. Seibel studied painting under Louis Schanker and sculpture under Leo Amino before starting a studio that he maintained until his death in 1985. Seibel is best known for his tableware designs, drawing influences from his study of sculpture and travels in Japan. His work in ceramics was prolific and wide-ranging in style, reaching prominence in the 1950s.
