An antique ceramic tray or serving platter with a pierced rim of copper and an unusual detachable handle, dating circa 1905. The handle attaches under the rim, transforming the antique serving piece into a basket.
The glazed ceramic insert is decorated with crisp transfer-printed bands and squares of green and pink on a white ground. China tile trays decorated with Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, and Secessionist motifs were produced at the turn of the 20th century by several well-known German companies, including Villeroy & Boch, WMF and Wächtersbacher Steingutfabrik.
Very good condition with age-appropriate crazing overall. Unmarked but almost certainly made in Germany. The diameter of the platter is 12 inches; with the handle attached, 8 inches height.
