Silver ice cream slice in one of the Gorham Mfg. Co's earliest patterns, "Grecian."The large spoon features a curved spoon blade that comes to a point.The finial resembles a fan or feathers in a stylized pattern.
Grecian was introduced in 1861 and was designed by John Gorham, Gorham Thurber, and Lewis Dexter, Jr.
The back of the server is engraved with the date 1864 and a personal inscription.The Gorham mark is also the earliest used.
The spoon is not marked sterling, and given the date is most likely coin (.900) silver.
Condition:Excellent.
Dimensions:9 5/8"Lx 2 3/4"W; weight is a hefty 95 grams, just a bit over 3 troy ounces.
