Wallace Gimson & Co., Lane Delph Pottery, Fenton, Staffordshire Potteries, circa 1884-1890. Formerly Pratt & Simpson.
This wonderful ironstone brown transfer-ware platter, circa 1885, is the aesthetic "Garfield" pattern.
The motif features a fantastic wide, busy band of Japanese floral cartouches, alternating geometric flourishes and cascading cabbage roses spilling into the well of the platter.
Looking closely you will find butterflies hidden among the roses.
The platter measures 117 5/8" in length and 14 1/4" in width. Stamped "Rd No 8844 - Garfield - the Beehive trademark - L S & S".
There are no cracks, chips or repairs; some small stains and light utensil marks from years of usage.
