The Early American Silver Makers adopted the Coin Silver Standard up until around the Late 1860s to Early 1870s at which point in time they started to adopt the Sterling Silver Standard. American Coin Silver has a 90% - 900/1000 Silver Content, and Sterling Silver has a slightly higher 92.5% - 925/1000 Silver Content. Pure Silver is 99.9% Pure - That is to say that it Contains No Other Alloy Metals. Some of Pieces of American Coin Silver items that were produced were marked "Coin" - but it should be Noted that many of the other pieces that were produced during that period Have No Silver Mark At All.
