Home Tableware & Barware | Early 20th Century Windsorware Pomona Serving Platter BX62733

Johnson Brothers were one of THE companies to create the original ironstone designs. This is from their Windsorware division. They utilized a design called transferware that a tissue thin piece of acid free paper, printed with a type of glaze ink could be laid onto theceramic piece while damp. After being allowed to dry in place, an artist would then hand apply the colors over the tissue in the accepted design. After the being allowed to dry, the piece would then be dipped in a high shine liquid mix of water and finely ground glass. After allowing that to dry, the piece would be fired, which would seal the picture in, and make the piece waterproof. Unless broken, of course. There is no crazing, no chips and this platter is in excellent condition. Due to the age of the piece and the shape, long thin and breakable, this piece will be professionally wrapped and boxed.

I have other pieces from this design in my store. If you follow me on chairish, you'll get notifications about discounts and new items.
