Home Tableware & Barware | 19th Century Wedgwood Queensware Cobalt Blue and Gilt Plates - Set of 10 HB54679

Here is a charming set of 10 reticulated 19th Century Wedgwood queensware plates depicting naturalistic groupings of wildflowers rendered in great detail with tooled gold on cobalt ground. The rim of each plate features reticulation or piercing in a lattice pattern with three reserves of rococo styling that display an ornament of scrolling leaves and clover, anchored in the center by a red jewel with a turquoise interior. Set includes an extra plate that has been repaired.

The back has a Wedgwood amphora symbol and mark for 1891-1900. About 1779 Josiah Wedgwood perfected his creamware, a type of refined earthenware. He supplied his creamware to Queen Charlotte and Catherine the Great and hence used the trade name Queensware.
